Last day for our bible story of Daniel and the Lion's Den and our Dinosaur theme
Today was our last day of Spirit Week. Each group wore a different color. Our ELP classes were assigned to wear red and everyone had some red on. We worked on our craft early this morning. We made lions out of paper plates and construction paper. I wanted to make sure we were able to get our craft done before the Petting Zoo was here. We were just finishing up our craft when we saw the truck and trailer come into the parking lot with animals. We were able to eat our snack before we went out to pet the different animals that were out. There was a calf, sheep, goat, pig and rabbit. There was a hen and her chick but they stayed inside their crate, but we could still see the hen trying to hide her chick from our sight. We were out about 20 minutes petting the animals. I had hand sanitizer ready to wash each child's hands after we had finished and then came in to wash hands better in the bathroom. They were all excited about seeing the animals. The front room came in to spend the morning with us so we were able to watch another video of Daniel together. The kids did some dancing and then off to the Commons to run a little before lunch.

The kids took turns coming over to make their craft. Some were very serious about working on the lion. I had cut the paper into strips and asked the kids to tear the strips to make the mane for their lions. Some had trouble but if I started a tear, they were able to go from there.

So much fun for the kids to get up close to pet the animals. Before we went out, I had gone over the rules with them. Be gentle when petting the animals and listen to the owner as she tells us what to and not to do. They were able to get into the pen with the rabbit. All the animals were very gentle and tame. The chicken and her chick were in a dog crate, but the kids could see the little chick thru the wires. The momma was trying to keep her chick safe but the kids were able to see the little one from time to time. We talked about how the animals felt. Some had rough hair, others were soft. The cow licked a few kids and learned the tongue is rough to the touch.
It has been so hot we have been in the gym or Commons all week for some running and playing to get the wiggles out before lunch and rest time. I have been seeing more and more sharing and playing together as well as holding hands while walking down the halls.
